St Laurent Campaign – Shift Into Neutral

Neutrals are in hot demand this season, and they’re anything but plain. Every girl needs neutral basics in her wardrobe, but what about statement pieces in subdued colours? Well, this spring, that’s exactly what you’ll get!

  • Neutral Tones in Bold Ways – If you’re going to be doing a sexy dress like this one, going with a quieter colour is sometimes the best way to go. Because a dress like this one has NO secrets (pack the spanx!), it’s important that you don’t over-do it. In this case, this mini is covered in sparkly sequins, giving you that shine when you walk into a room. If you’re going to go mini, make sure the top is well covered. It’s all about balance (let’s face it, you don’t want to look like a street walker as Joan Rivers would say!).

  • Colour-Blocked Accessories – We’ve talked about this before, fashion design houses are now doing the colour-blocking work for you! In this case I pulled both the shoes and bag from BCBG that had the same hues of purple and green, then found these amazing wood bangles from Melanie Lyn in cooresponding colours! The beauty about wearing neutrals on the body is you can have fun with the rest!

No matter what your style is, it’s time to try new things. With the abundance of options available right now, you can easily play with one of these hot trends for spring, without over-paying. With so many options at St Laurent, you’re sure to find something that works for your lifestyle!

St Laurent Spring Campaign – The Strong, Silent Stripe

Stripes are nothing new to spring- for decades we’ve seen the re-emergence of nautical numbers: skirts, dresses, tops, jackets, shoes (you get my drift) are all about the stripe. What’s fun about stripes THIS spring, is it’s less about the boat look, and more about the glam look; mixing unusual colours together along with variations of stripe sizes. It’s almost as if designers took nautical and colour block, threw them into a blender, and out came spring’s hottest new trend.

Here’s how I built a look based around that very premise!

  • The Striped Statement Jacket – OK so I’ve already gone on and on about the new stripe, so let’s chat more about how to incorporate it into a look. When trying a multitude of colour in one outfit, let the designers do the work for you. In this case, I pulled a BCBG Max Azria blazer that had a mix of soft blush and forest greens (how brilliant is that?!). I then took one of the unique and equally on trend colours from the blazer and pulled it into the pant. It’s that simple really, just take one of the colours from the blocked stripe and build on it throughout the rest of the look. Alternatively, you can go with a simple neutral colour (black/white) or a dark denim to dress it down!

  • Blushing Blouse – I decided to pull in another hot colour for spring by adding a beautiful light and airy blouse (also BCBG). This colour works on almost everyone and I love how the blush from the jacket almost oozes into the blouse as if it was all in one piece. As mentioned last week, this colour is in full bloom in stores now so I suggest picking up this beautiful colour – whether it be in a blouse or a shoe!

  •  Neon Trousers – As mentioned earlier with this look, you can simply add a black or white trouser and it would still be fabulous, but I wanted to take it a step further and showcase some wonderfully lush coloured pants. These are also BCBG and hang beautifully off the body (Spanx can be your friend in this silk number, haha). I love that neon (hello 80′s) has made a comeback this year, so any way I can add it to an outfit, I will!

  • Pop of Colour – I also love to add brights for spring, and I did it in this look through bold necklaces (beaded coral-inspired pieces from BCBG) and wicked peep toe shoes from ALDO. Coral is another great colour for spring and gives your skin an instant glow. Add even more contrast to a look by layering primary coloured jewellery together or a bright coloured nail polish!

  • On the Fringe – When people think of fringe on garments, they tend to think more “hippy-chic” or even “country-western”. I wanted to show you that it can also be worn to the office or as an everyday bag. This particular fringe bag from ALDO is particularly cool with it’s neon green/yellow accents on a white leather background. If you’re going to do fringe, it’s best to keep it in the accessory realm – scarves, leather necklaces and purses are your best bet.

St Laurent Campaign – A Nod to Mod

Spring has a lot of retro, 60′s-esk style and with this campaign, I wanted to show a modern way to wear this.

The simplest way to try the 60′s style, is by adding a fun geometric print, or some cat eye sunglasses! Let’s give this look a solid breakdown:

  • Geometric Prints – whether you go all out and do this print in a dress, or just try it out in a purse or scarf, this is a really easy way to incorporate a pattern into your spring wardrobe. If you’re going to try the dress (which I TOTALLY think you should), look for one that has an A Line skirt, as it’s universal and works for every body shape. This particular dress is from The Bay! Another tip for wearing a bold print is when putting the rest of the outfit together, look for colours from the print, to match with accessories or layering pieces – it will make the print pop!

  • The Colour Blush – Not quite pink and not quiet cream, blush is the perfect alternative to a basic neutral! In this look, we played with blush in many ways; through accessories (both the purse and shoe – from Town Shoes), and even in the dress! The good news is, because it’s such a “quiet” colour, it’s never overbearing and will always be a compliment to any look, rather than an awkward standout. For wedding season, this would be a great colour for a dress too!

  • Bold Jewellery – Accessories are what really differentiates your outfit from someone else’s. Think of it this way, when celebs wear the same dress, and the mags ask “Who Wore It Better?” it’s always the one who styled the accessories best. In this look, I layered silver, pink and white bangles (which again ties in with the blazer and the dress), and added a clear/silver statement necklace. You’ll notice that the necklace is also geometric – don’t be afraid to repeat ideas in one look, as long as they’re complimentary, not clashy. The necklace is from Melanie Lyn (also available in a bracelet) and the bracelets are from Jacob and ALDO Accessories.

  • Wear White – now that warmer weather has hit us (well, sort of), it’s time to pull out that brilliant white blazer of yours! Or if you don’t have one, check out Le Chateau, cause this one has a great fit! Look for a white blazer that’s a cotton/viscose blend as it will have stretch and comfort in one… it also means the fit will go with your shape, not against it.

Have fun and happy shopping friends!
